LPG is a fast emerging market in West Africa with many countries including Nigeria and Ghana experiencing exponential growth in demand of the product for domestic fuel and automotive use.
The CNG market in Nigeria is limited to the Southern states with CNG providers focused on off-grid and captive power opportunities. However NGVs are about to emerge as a major driver of CNG growth across the country with government interventions.
Mini LNG opportunities exist in Nigeria for fuelling off-grid or captive power sites and closing infrastructure gaps for isolated areas of the hinterland seeking natural gas for power generation or feedstock for CNG stations and industrial processes.
The Nigerian Gas Value chain is undeveloped especially at the market end with low utilisation and a lot of latent demand for fuel gases ie LPG and CNG. LPG Penetration is at 13% while the CNG market is almost non-existent with total installed compression capacity of 1.2mcm and less than 5000 Natural Gas Vehicles (NGV) in circulation. The current plan by the Federal Government to implement the Gas Infrastructure Fund with the passage of the PIGB will see a lot of financial and policy interventions aimed at stimulating growth by introducing NGVs and cylinders for homes which will hopefully open up the market for investment. Potential demand stands at 20million m3 for CNG and 5mtpa for LPG respectively.
The Ecocity Power & Utilities team works with clients on (1) Power Projects: (from generation to transmission; and distribution) and (2) Water Projects: from water resourcing (fresh or brackish sources), to treatment technologies, transmission systems and last mile distribution networks through to billing, collection mechanisms and water audit systems to help reduce non-revenue water). We anticipate and respond to complex market challenges and their resulting opportunities by offering an unparalleled range of services, innovation and critical thinking to ensure project success and maximum benefits for clients.
